Breaking the habit of Insomnia

 I'm sure everyone will agree who has ever suffered from insomnia, how much they hate those emails and web pages telling you, to just do this to get to sleep... hot milk, warm bath.... if this worked we wouldn't have insomnia as a chronic problem.

Every person is different.  And this is just my story, I'm not a doctor.  What worked for me may not work for you, but I do present something different here to the stuff we've all heard before.

In 2012 I developed symptoms similar to MS.  It's hard to describe, but it felt like the nerves in my body were vibrating.  I was found to be high in Vitamin B6 which can cause permanent nerve damage.  Within 3 months my B6 levels had returned to normal, but as my symptoms were not completely gone my Dr prescribed Evening Primrose oil.   That's when I discovered  my insomnia solution.

My Insomnia Solution:
The combination of oils: Flax Seed, Evening Primrose and Fish Oil, broke the pattern of insomnia.   It is now many years since my discovery and the only time when poor sleep does return is when i forget to take my oil combination.

Some things that I've found that cause me sleep problems:
Vitamin D and some Vitamin B's after 6pm in the evening will cause me not to sleep till 2-3am.  I only take these vitamins in the morning or before 1pm.  Eating foods high in sugar, in the evening will also aggravate my sleeping pattern.  Alcohol does too.

Just a a note:  Before discovering the Oils combination I had switched to a gluten-free diet, and exchanged milk for coconut milk or organic milk.  I have since then changed to a grain-free diet.  

Evidence
I went searching for evidence on the three oils but I could not find any studies. Finally I decided to search through the comments section of blogs mentioning the benefits of these oils and eventually found a theme on the evening primrose blogs. I found every fourth or fifth person commenting say that evening primrose oil also helped them to sleep.

​As a side note myself and my friend have both found that Flax seed oil stops aching knees from running and bizarrely snoring (not me!! :-))
